At our Pre-schoolers house we work in advance by looking at the Early Learning Goals (ELG’s) and what is expected of children at the end of Reception year.
Our children learn ‘Life Skills’: from how to put on their clothes to helping clear up after eating and how to hold writing instruments properly. All our play activities are designed to challenge your child’s cognitive skills. At Shannon ChildCare we provide both adult-led activities as well as free play learning time. By offering this combined learning approach your child will learn to try new skills.
We support our young children to understand about feelings and emotions, and guide them to learn to self-regulate, encouraging good behaviour.
Our activities include alphabet recognition, Phonics Phase 1, tracing letters of the alphabet, memory games and phonics blending. We develop children’s literacy skills from an early age and make it fun, to encourage our children to have a love of books and learning.
We bring books to life by using props and getting our children involved in Story Time and puppet shows.
We incorporate many reading activities in our pre-school setting to help nurture a love of books and extend this to their home environment by operating a ‘library’ system.
Our curriculum is designed to give our children a deeper sense and understanding of the world around them. Recycling unwanted materials, planting herbs and teaching children how to use water and electricity efficiently. These are just some of the activities we do in order to help develop their critical thinking skills and knowledge of how best to treat the planet.
We are proud to say that the majority of children, within our care, exceed the Government’s expectations within the EYFS and are working towards the ELG’s, which is expected at the end of Reception year. Our children are ‘School Ready’ for when they enter Reception.
